The Rose

‘Concept to Completion’ was our latest block in Pastels Class with the wonderful Carolyn Sheather

We started with thumbnail sketches, trying out tone, then moved to colour, then onto the starting the final piece.

Its hard work, SEEING shape, and making them ‘turn’, then the correct shading so some move into the background and bring other aspects forward.

I thought I’d jump in the deep end and use  the biggest size paper I could find, and go for it. With Carolyn’s help, to stop me from drowning completely, I swam with the current and LOVED the ride!!!!

What do you think?

  1. What a fabulous experience that must have been, just diving in and expanding. I can feel the energy of your movements flowing through the petals. Well done.

Thanks Kama, I’m drawn to red (oh pardon the pun there!)
Loved the idea of closing my eyes and jumping in, and it helps without question to have a great teacher Like Carolyn Sheather!!! Do you have a creative outlet ?

  2. Carolyn says:

Your creativity and courage, your beauty and balls are impressive and inspirational. A blessing was bestowed on us the day you entered the fray…big love to you…

  3. Wow, that really is huge! I love it. The blending of the colours makes it so soft and life-like.

  4. It is really enormous- I wanted big sweeps of colour, and Carolyn helped me ‘shape’ the petals to bring them out of the page!! Love the experience!!

  5. Don’t know how I missed this! It’s beautiful! Please frame it to preserve the loveliness! Xx

  6. Thanks Miss Flora, thats a good idea- there are a few more I’d like to frame, and we are having an exhibition next year, so hopefully will sell a few as well!!!! – its gunna be hard to let go of my babies though~~~~

Big is ALWAYS good with pastels – especially with tonal background. You might find it easier to let go of your babies when you see how much pleasure they give someone else. i find it’s more fun to give away my art than sell it.
