Sticky-beak or Writer?

I’ve realised after a lifetime of looking, looking, looking, that I’m not (just) a sticky-beak who has to notice everything, I’m a writer who has to observe all the ‘goings-on’ around them.

What I was really looking for was to be inspired- to be a better person, to make me go ‘Ahuh, I see’, to build me into a better person.

And as a writer, these become inspiration for poetry, essays, articles, short or long stories.

Watch and listen to anyone or anything- teachers, parents, strangers, events, books, art, movies/TV etc.

Take note of how people do things; what they know, how they deal with a situation, how they speak, or interact, everything, everything, everything.

Watch, listen, absorb.

Be a sticky-beak!!

Thanks for reading :))

Shopping centres are great places but one time a few years back the leader of the writing group I was with suggested we all meet on Monday morning (our regular session time) at a local shopping centre where we would break off into pair and observe for a time before meeting back for coffee. Unfortunately, it was one of those very quiet Mondays and almost the only people we could observe were our fellow group members as we kept crossing paths 🙂 Still, we did enjoy the coffee and had fun during the following week ‘inventing’ stories about what we could have overheard!

Great, and topical post. I had to describe something about myself, and up popped the word “nosy”… to describe the way I like detail 🙂 , and I agree, creating your own detail is fun too.
